BODY TREATMENTS
Deep tissue massage:
Deep tissue massage does what it says "on the tin" - it is a massage
technique that works on the deeper layers of muscle tissue.
Similar
to Swedish massage, deep tissue massage uses slower and firmer strokes
and pressure than other treatments - deep finger pressure that
concentrates on particular areas, and follows or goes across the fibers
of muscles and tendons. What to expect: A
doctor or other specialist for a deep tissue massage may have referred
you. Generally speaking, deep tissue massage is recommended for
specific problems, so you may know what to expect already. If you have
decided to have this massage treatment yourself, you need to make sure
that you give me as much information as you can. I will talk to you
about any special problems you have, how an injury or muscle strain has
improved or got worse, your lifestyle, exercise routine, diet and so
on, so I know the best way to help.
Trigger Point Therapy:
Trigger point therapy is a bodywork technique that involves the
applying of pressure to tender muscle tissue in order to relieve pain
and dysfunction in other parts of the body. Sometimes massage and
trigger point therapies are performed together. The purpose of trigger
point therapy is to eliminate pain and to re-educate the muscles into
pain-free habits. After several treatments, the swelling and stiffness
of neuromuscular pain is reduced, range of motion is increased, tension
is relieved, and circulation, flexibility and coordination are
improved.
What to expect: Deep
tissue work applied to the knots. Elbows and forearms will be used. The
Massage can be painful, but the good kind of the pain. The pain
that’s going to give you gain by releasing those tight muscles and
knots on your back. Expect to be soar the next day or two, think of it
as a price you pay for removing those knots that gave you headaches and
muscle pain.
Balinese massage:
A Balinese massage uses a combination of gentle stretches, acupressure
and aromatherapy oils to stimulate the flow of blood, oxygen and 'qi'
(energy) around your body, and bring deep relaxation and wellness.
What to expect: Balinese
massage is usually performed on a soft mat on the floor, or on a
massage table. Essential oils form an important part of a Balinese
massage - smell is a very powerful stimulant triggering memory and
other associations - the use of oils can be very therapeutic, and will
stimulate your body's circulation and lymphatic system.
Abhyanga:
The Ayurvedic oil massage - is an integral part of the daily routine
recommended by this healing system for overall health and well-being.
It is nourishing, relieves fatigue, provides stamina, pleasure and
perfect sleep, enhances the complexion and the luster of the skin,
promotes longevity and nourishes all parts of the body.
What to expect:
Ayurvedic massage uses hot essential oils. The massage techniques used
include tapping, kneading and squeezing as well as the more traditional
massage strokes you would expect. The massage is likely to be quite
oily, and some of the oil gets rubbed into your forehead and hair.
